Recliner Buying Guide for Harare Homes

What to test for comfort, clearance and a finish that suits your home.

A recliner should feel comfortable both upright and fully open. When you are shopping for one in Harare, the most useful questions are practical: will it fit, can you operate it easily, and does the covering suit your household? Use this checklist when comparing a single chair or a suite with reclining seats.

Check the open footprint, not just the closed chair

Measure the floor space from the wall to the front of the open footrest. Also check whether a nearby coffee table, walkway, or door would interfere with the reclining motion. Different mechanisms need different wall clearance; a number from another brand or model may not apply to the chair you want.

Flair Lounge’s current catalogue lists the Athena single recliner at approximately 1000 mm high, 950 mm deep and 1000 mm wide in its closed dimensions. That is only the starting footprint. Ask the team to demonstrate the full open position and confirm the model’s required clearance. For a two-seater with a console, also measure the total width and decide whether the console is useful for your room.

Sit long enough to notice the details

Try the chair as you would use it at home. Sit upright, reach for the release or lever, recline, and return to the seated position. Your back should feel supported and the footrest should feel comfortable under your legs. Check the seat height, armrest position, and whether the action feels manageable for everyone who will use it.

If you are buying a lounge suite, ask how many seats actually recline. Similar looking 3-2-1 suites may offer different fixed and reclining combinations. The current Flair Lounge range includes single recliners, two-seaters with consoles, and larger suites with different reclining configurations. Compare the current models before visiting.

Compare the finish with the intended room

Feel the actual upholstery swatch and ask what covers the seat, arms, and back. The catalogue lists options such as leather-look fabric, full leather, leather upper, suede fabric, and mottled fabric on different models. These terms describe different materials and constructions; ask for the exact specification of the suite you choose rather than assuming every surface is the same.

For any finish, follow its own care label. Dust and clean it with methods suitable for that material, and consider how much direct sunlight the chair will receive. If a colour is central to your decision, compare a physical swatch in the showroom because screens display colours differently.

Questions to take to the showroom

  • What are the chair’s dimensions when fully reclined?
  • How much space does this model need behind and in front?
  • Which seats recline in this particular suite?
  • What covers each part of the chair, and what are the care instructions?
  • What warranty applies to the frame, upholstery, and mechanism?
  • What is available now, and when can it be collected?
